PRESS RELEASE

The Chandigarh Administration had distributed 3 months food grains free of cost in one go (April, May & June, 2020) i.e. 15 Kg Wheat per person and 03 Kg Pulses per family under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna (PMGKAY) to all registered Priority Households and AAY beneficiaries covered under DBT Scheme for food grains as per provisions of NFSA.

 

As per directions issued by the Govt. of India under extended Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna, the Department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, U.T. Chandigarh is distributing food grains free of cost only to the registered DBT Food beneficiaries in the scale of 5 kg. wheat per member per month and 1 kg. Channa per family per month for five months i.e., July to November, 2020. The department is distributing this in one go. This is in addition to the food subsidy.

 

​For Distribution of food grains, the administration has fixed 11 centers to cover all the areas of Chandigarh. In first phase, 5 centers have been started where the registered beneficiaries can get their entitled food grains free of cost. These five centers are: Govt. High School, Hallomajra, Community Centre, Maulijagran, Community Centre, Burail and Sector 25, Community Centre, Manimajra.

Only the registered DBT beneficiaries, who are receiving food subsidy in their bank accounts, are eligible to receive this benefit under the said scheme. The department will cover the entire city and we will ensure that all the eligible beneficiaries receive ration under PMGKAY.

​The beneficiaries are advised to avoid crowding at the distribution centers in their area. Every eligible beneficiary will get ration under PMGKAY scheme. The public at large is requested to cooperate with the department to carry out this distribution smoothly.
