One Day Event on Artificial Intelligence at Centre for Humane Artificial Intelligence (ChAI)  - SPIC

 

Chandigarh, 20th November,2019: Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC) under the aegis of IT Department of Chandigarh hosted a half day event ChAI @SPIC today.

 This was the inaugural event of Centre for Humane Artificial Intelligence (ChAI), a platform being setup with a view to foster discussion an opportunities and challenges inherent in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI).This event was organized by SPIC in sync with the mandate of Niti Aayog to establish the National Program on AI, with a view to guiding the research and development in new and emerging technologies.

 ChAI@SPIC has proposed ChAI to be a platform where practitioners from industry, academia and government can come together in pursuance of the goal of AI for All by conducting research to make AI more accessible, inclusive and ethical through human-centered design of AI based e-governance solutions.

 ChAI@SPIC also plans to Organise workshops and short-term training programs on ethical and inclusive AI with a view to guide young entrepreneurs, start-ups and decision-makers on the best practices on AI implementation.

 At the event, experts from Industry and Academia got together and presented talks on AI and ML.

Among the speakers were Mr. Kapil Khanna, VP & Chief Architect for AI at a leading local IT firm spoke on application of AI and ML in business.  Mr. Abhishek Sharma, a US returned software engineer, who runs a AI based startup in the city, shared his experiences on working with these technologies. Mr. Naresh Batra, CEO SFivei, a Silicon Valley, USA based software solutions company will deliver a talk on How AI is Driving  the Next Wave of  Digital  Transformation.

Giving an insight into the motivation for setting up ChAI @ SPIC,  Dr. Saurabh Mishra, IAS, Director, Information Technology said that we are setting up this platform with a view to guiding the research and development in new and emerging technologies in pursuance of the NITI Aayog's strategy paper which has proposed #AIforAll as the unique brand for India's leadership in AI which sets a vision for AI that is both inclusive and for social good. He elaborated about plans to create a platform where practitioners from industry, academia and government can come together and discuss the opportunities and challenges inherent in AI in pursuance of the goal of AI for All.

The event was attended by Young Entrepreneurs, startups, government officials and students and was well received by the audience.

It is worth nothing that IxDA Chandigarh -  a not-for-profit association of professionals working at the intersection of human-centred design and technology, is collaborating with SPIC to curate ChAI @ SPIC.
