Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh inaugurated RIBA exhibition

 

Chandigarh, 6th September 2019: The prestigious RIBA president’s medal exhibition is an international travelling exhibit that will have a month long home in CCA from 6thSeptember to 9thOctober 2019.

This exhibition is brought for the 2nd time to India. Chandigarh owes creation of its architectural identity not only to the RIBA Royal Gold Medal Recipient Le Corbusier, but also to architects Pierre Jeanneret, Maxwell Fry and Jane B. Drew. Both Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew were RIBA members. Fry is also a RIBA Royal Gold Medal recipient.

Chief Guest Shri V P Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh inaugurated the exhibition today , in the presence of Shri ManojParida, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator, Mr. David Gloster, Director of Education at RIBA and Professor Mohammad Gamal Abdelmonem, Chair in Architecture, Nottingham Trent University, Shri Vijay Garg, President, Council of Architecture, New Delhi.

On this occasion two publications were also released by the Administrator namely, the table calendar 'Elements' and the CCA RIBA booklet. Culled out of a unique collaborative effort, the calender is a repository of building elements celebrating the chandigarharchitectural vocabulary created by the works of Fry and Drew. The booklet not only captures the essence of the exhibition by showcasing the award winning entriesbut also provides other information regarding RIBA, CCA and their historic connection with Chandigarh.

The Administration truly appreciated the efforts of the CCA students and faculty and alumni that put together this event to give it an international flavour as well as showcased their indigenous creativity and skillful design talent. He complimented the efforts of the CCA, and congratulated one and all who had made this event so successful for the scores of students who will visit over the month long event.

He also recommended that CCA has the full support of Chandigarh Administration to host Zonal NASA and COA thesis awards.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by a story telling session on “Narratives in Architecture”. Ar. Vami Koticha associate principal in sP+a Mumbai and Ar. Manit Rastogi, head of the internationally renowned architecture and urban design firm Morphogenesis were the narrators of the session that aimed at establishing a connection between the tangible and the intangible.
